Tsigrado Beach Milos — The Complete Guide (2026)
There are two ways to reach Tsigrado beach in Milos. The first is to park your scooter at the top of the cliff, find the narrow gap in the rock, lower yourself down a rope and squeeze through a crevice in the cliff face while hoping the person ahead of you does not get stuck.
The second is to arrive by boat, anchor in the turquoise water, and swim to shore in about thirty seconds.
Both ways work. One of them is significantly better.
What Makes Tsigrado Special
Tsigrado is on the southern coast of Milos, roughly halfway between Firiplaka and Agia Kyriaki Beach. It is a small cove — barely 50 metres wide — enclosed on three sides by vertical pale yellow cliffs that rise almost straight up from the water.
The beach itself is a narrow strip of white sand and small pebbles. The water in front of it is extraordinarily clear — you can see the sandy bottom clearly at four or five metres depth, and the colour shifts from pale turquoise in the shallows to deep blue just beyond the cove.
What sets Tsigrado apart from other beaches on the south coast is the enclosed feeling. The cliffs on all three sides create a natural shelter from wind and swell. Even on days when Kleftiko or Polyaigos are too rough to visit comfortably, Tsigrado is often calm.
There is also a small sea cave at the eastern end of the beach — accessible by swimming — with enough depth to explore comfortably with a mask and fins.
Getting to Tsigrado — By Boat vs By Land
By Boat — the Right Way
From Agia Kyriaki Beach heading east, Tsigrado is around 25–30 minutes by boat. You approach from the sea and anchor just outside the cove. The water is shallow and sandy — easy anchoring. From there, either swim directly to the beach (30–40 metres) or use the dinghy if you have one.
Arriving by boat means you skip the rope entirely, arrive relaxed, and can leave whenever you want. You also avoid the crowds that arrive overland in the middle of the day, since most people who make the rope descent do so between 10am and 2pm.
This is how we recommend visiting Tsigrado. Whether you choose a milos boat rental, a milos boat tour or join one of our milos cruises that passes the south coast, arriving by sea is the definitive Tsigrado experience.
By Land — the Adventure Route
For those who want the full experience of the rope descent, or who do not have access to a boat, the land approach is genuinely possible and has its own appeal.
Park at the clifftop above the beach — there is a small informal parking area — and follow the path to the edge. The descent involves two stages: a rope section on the outside of the cliff, then a squeeze through a narrow rock passage that opens onto the beach. It takes about 5–10 minutes and requires reasonable fitness and no fear of heights.
Important: the rope is maintained informally by locals. Check its condition before committing. Do not attempt the descent in wet conditions. And remember — you have to go back up the same way.
What to Do at Tsigrado
Swimming. The water inside the cove is calm, clear and shallow near the shore. Excellent for swimming of all levels. The sandy bottom is ideal for children. The deeper water just outside the cove is good for stronger swimmers.
Snorkelling. The sea cave at the eastern end of the beach is the highlight. Swim in, look up at the light filtering through the water, explore the rock formations. Visibility is excellent — bring your own mask and fins if you have them as there is no equipment hire at Tsigrado.
Photography. Tsigrado is one of the most photogenic beaches in Milos. The pale yellow cliffs against the turquoise water create a colour combination that photographs exceptionally well. Best light is morning — the cliffs catch the early sun directly.
Relaxing. There are no sunbeds, no beach bars, no facilities of any kind. You bring everything you need and take everything away with you. This is the point. Tsigrado is one of the few beaches on the south coast of Milos that still feels genuinely wild.
Best Time to Visit Tsigrado
Early morning is the best time for two reasons: the light hits the cliffs at the perfect angle, and the beach is empty. If you arrive by boat before 9:30am, you will likely have Tsigrado entirely to yourself.
Midday is the busiest time — this is when most overland visitors make the descent. The beach is small enough that a dozen people makes it feel crowded.
Afternoon is quieter again as the overland visitors leave. The light changes as the sun moves west — less dramatic than the morning but still excellent.
Avoid choppy days on the south coast — the cove is sheltered but the boat approach is uncomfortable in strong swell. Check conditions with us before departing.
What to Bring
Because there are no facilities at Tsigrado, bring everything you need for the day:
- Food and water — there is nothing to buy at the beach
- Snorkelling gear — the sea cave rewards a proper look
- Sunscreen — reef-safe preferred
- Waterproof bag — for your phone and camera
- Shoes for the rocks — if arriving by boat, the swim to shore is easy; water shoes help on the pebbles
If you rent a boat with us, we provide a cooler with ice, drinking water and soft drinks. Bring food and anything else on top of that.
Tsigrado as Part of a Larger Route
Tsigrado is best visited as part of a full south coast route rather than as a standalone destination. The natural combination is:
Half-day route from Agia Kyriaki: Agia Kyriaki → Tsigrado → Firiplaka → return. Around 4 hours including swimming stops. Good for families with young children or those who want a calmer day.
Full south coast route (full day): Agia Kyriaki → Tsigrado → Firiplaka → Gerakas → Kleftiko → Sykia → return. A full 7–8 hours covering the best of the southern coastline. This is the route we map out for most of our full-day milos boat rental guests.
All of our south coast milos cruises pass Tsigrado and include a swimming stop there or nearby.
