Firiplaka Beach Milos — The Complete Guide (2026)
Of all the beaches on the south coast of Milos, Firiplaka is the most accessible — and that is both its strength and its weakness. There is a road to Firiplaka. There is a small car park. There are beach bars. In the middle of August, there are people.
But arrive by boat in the early morning, anchor in the bay before anyone else gets there, and Firiplaka reveals itself as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Cyclades. A long arc of fine pale sand. Orange and cream volcanic rock rising steeply on both sides. Water so shallow and calm that you can walk out thirty metres and still be knee-deep.
The difference between arriving by road and arriving by boat is not just logistical. It is the difference between a crowded beach and a private one.
What Makes Firiplaka Special
The size. Firiplaka is one of the longest beaches on the south coast of Milos — stretching almost 400 metres end to end. Even in peak season, the sheer length of the beach means you can always find a quieter section away from the facilities.
The water. The bay at Firiplaka is wide, shallow and almost completely calm. The bottom is fine pale sand, which gives the water an extraordinary turquoise colour in the shallows. In certain light conditions — particularly late morning — the water here looks almost Caribbean.
The rock formations. The cliffs on either end of the beach are made of layered volcanic rock in shades of orange, cream and pale yellow. Towards the eastern end, the rock has been eroded into dramatic formations — small arches, undercut ledges, holes worn through the cliff by centuries of wave action. These formations are best explored by boat or by swimming along the cliff base.
The sunsets. Firiplaka faces roughly southwest. On clear evenings the sunset from the beach — or from a boat anchored in the bay — is one of the best on the south coast of Milos.
Getting to Firiplaka
By Boat — the Best Way
Arriving at Firiplaka by boat gives you something no road visitor gets: the choice of where to anchor. The western end of the bay, near the rock formations, is the most interesting for snorkelling and exploring. The eastern end is calmer and better for families with small children. The middle is the most picturesque.
From Agia Kyriaki Beach, Firiplaka is around 15–20 minutes heading east — one of the closest south coast beaches to our departure point. It fits naturally into any south coast route as an early or midday stop.

By Road
The road to Firiplaka is one of the better maintained on the south coast of Milos — passable by scooter in good condition but more comfortable by car. The drive from Adamas takes around 25–30 minutes.
There is a small car park at the top of the beach. In July and August it fills up by 9am. Arriving after 10am means a significant walk in the heat.
Two beach bars operate at Firiplaka in summer — sunbeds, umbrellas, drinks and simple food. If you are arriving by road and want facilities, Firiplaka is the most comfortable beach on the south coast.
What to Do at Firiplaka
Swimming. The shallow, calm water makes Firiplaka one of the best swimming beaches on the south coast. Safe for children, comfortable for non-swimmers, and long enough that you can find your own space even when the beach is busy.
Snorkelling. The eastern end of the beach, where the volcanic rock meets the water, has the most interesting snorkelling on Firiplaka. The rock formations just below the surface — undercut ledges, small caves, eroded channels — are packed with sea life. Bring your own gear.
Rock exploration. The volcanic formations at the western end of the beach are worth exploring at low swell. Climb along the base of the cliff to find small natural pools, arches and viewpoints back across the bay. Best done in the morning before the beach gets busy.
Sunset watching. If you are still on the water in the late afternoon, Firiplaka bay is one of the best places on the south coast to watch the sun go down. Anchor in the western part of the bay and wait — the orange rock turns gold as the sun drops.
Best Time to Visit Firiplaka
Early morning (before 9am) is the best time to arrive by boat. The beach is empty, the light is perfect on the rock formations, and the water is at its calmest. You will likely have the entire bay to yourself until around 10am.
Late morning is when road visitors start arriving in numbers. The beach bar opens. Umbrellas go up. Still beautiful — just busier.
Afternoon is the busiest time for road visitors. If arriving by boat, anchor at the western end away from the facilities for the most peaceful experience.
Sunset (after 6pm) is excellent from the water. Most road visitors leave by late afternoon, and the bay becomes peaceful again.
Firiplaka as Part of a Larger Route
Firiplaka works best as one stop among several rather than a standalone destination:
East coast morning route (half day — 4 to 5 hours): Agia Kyriaki → Firiplaka → Gerakas → Tsigrado → return A calm, family-friendly half day on the eastern section of the south coast. No need to go as far west as Kleftiko.
Full south coast (full day — 7 to 8 hours): Agia Kyriaki → Tsigrado → Firiplaka → Gerakas (lunch) → Kleftiko → Sykia → return The complete south coast experience. Firiplaka is a natural mid-morning swimming stop on the way east before the longer run to Kleftiko.

Firiplaka vs Other South Coast Beaches
Firiplaka vs Tsigrado: Firiplaka is larger, calmer and better for families. Tsigrado is more dramatic, more enclosed and more photogenic. Both are on the same route — there is no reason to choose.
Firiplaka vs Gerakas: Firiplaka has facilities (beach bar, sunbeds). Gerakas has none but is more intimate and has the extraordinary amber pebble colour. Gerakas is better for a quiet lunch stop; Firiplaka is better for a longer swimming stop with children.
Firiplaka vs Kleftiko: Completely different experiences. Firiplaka is a beach. Kleftiko is a rock formation with caves. Both are essential on a full south coast day.
What to Bring
If arriving by boat, we provide a cooler with ice, drinking water, soft drinks and a sunshade. Bring additionally:
- Food — unless you want to use the beach bar (available in summer)
- Snorkelling gear — the eastern rock formations reward proper exploration
- Sunscreen — reef-safe preferred
- Waterproof camera — the rock colour against the turquoise water photographs exceptionally
