Have you not yet visited Kleftiko, the cave of Sykia, Cape Vani or even the island of Poliegos? Do you want to swim in the crystal clear waters of the bay of Gerakas and the beach of Gerontas? You are in the right place!

With 47 high-speed ferries declaring their departure for the summer season of 2025, Greek coastal shipping is entering a strengthening trajectory, offering greater coverage of island destinations and possible price reductions, where conditions allow.

The gradual start of high-speed ferry routes began in mid-April and will peak in May, with the full development of the coastal shipping project expected from the beginning of June.

Ferry companies are shaping their routes based on demand, in order to meet the needs of the increased passenger public that chooses the islands as a summer destination.

According to executives in the ferry industry, the use of high-speed vessels that are not burdened by the mandatory use of the new fuel that began on May 1, combined with the 50% reduction in port fees, creates fiscal space for companies to proceed with price discounts, where possible.

The prices of coastal ferry tickets in the entire market remain moderate following the amendment of the Ministry of Shipping to reduce port fees by 50%, a decision that is part of the strategy to support coastal shipping in view of the summer season.

Despite the pressure for increases of 12-15% due to the implementation of the new regulation on low-sulfur marine fuels from May 1, the intervention of the State with the reduction of fees and the cyclical decline in international fuel prices, have prevented the adjustment of fares for the time being.

As the competent bodies underline, the coastal shipping market, like the air market, is fully liberalised and governed by rules of free competition, which does not allow direct state intervention in prices.

Nevertheless, the strategies to support coastal shipping by the Ministry of Shipping contribute to balancing pressures and maintaining fares at reasonable levels.

The summer season of 2025 is thus evolving into a critical phase for the accessibility of the islands, the quality of transport, but also for maintaining the social cohesion of insular Greece.
